The holiday season is all about giving back. What better way to show your appreciation for your puppy than by gifting them something special? Even if they don’t understand the concept of Christmas, they’ll know something is up by noticing the holiday guests, food, and warmth. Get ready to spoil your pup this holiday season with some of these great gift ideas!
Homemade Holiday Puppy Treats
This is one gift that you won’t want to wrap and put under the tree; your puppy will probably find these treats and spoil the surprise! There are many different recipes that you can find online and we’ve included some of our favorites:
- Nutty Bacon Dog Treats
Who doesn’t love bacon? Food is the way to everyone’s heart, with puppies being no exception. This recipe is from Dog Hill Kitchen and makes about 6 dozen, 1” in diameter doggy treats. You’ll need:
- 3 slices of bacon, diced
- 1 egg
- 1/3 cup creamy natural peanut butter
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup
- 3 tablespoons water
- ½ cup soy flour
- ½ whole wheat pastry flour
- ½ cup wheat germ
Start by preheating the oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit and line two baking sheets with parchment paper. Fry the bacon while saving the fat, as you’ll mix the fat with the egg, peanut butter, maple syrup, and water. Mix thoroughly. After that, you’ll want to add in the flour and wheat germ and mix until it reaches a steady consistency. Stir in the crispy bacon pieces after that and roll out the dough (on a flowered surface) to about ¼” thick. If you’re feeling festive, you can use Christmas-themed cookie cutters! Final step: bake in the oven for 12-15 minutes until lightly browned. Actual final step: watch your dog ascend into bacon-induced doggy euphoria.
- Xmas Carob Mint Dog Cookies
Important: before you begin cooking, never use chocolate when cooking for your dogs. It can be toxic to your furry friend. This is why we use carob as a replacement
These Christmas cookies will put a smile on your dog’s face and get them in the holiday spirit! This recipe is courtesy of the Paw Luxury blog. You’ll need:
- 1 cup flour
- 1 cup baking mix (Bisquick or Jiffy)
- 5 drops of mint flavoring
- ¼ cup milk
- 2 tablespoons margarine
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon corn syrup
Mix all of the ingredients and roll out onto a floured surface to ¼ inch thick cookies. Cut with whatever cookie cutter you want and place on a cookie sheet coated with cooking spray. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 25-30 minutes until the cookies are lightly browned. You can use carob icing or you can dip the cookies in melted carob approximately halfway through the baking time. Never substitute with real chocolate. After the cookies are cooled down, you can gift-wrap them or hang them on the tree! Stores these in an airtight container to preserve the freshness.
Puppy Gift Ideas
There are a plethora of gifts that exist in the puppy world, with no shortage of inventive or useful (or not so useful) products that can benefit your dog. Here is a list of a few items we’ve gifted in the past:
- Keep your puppy warm with a snuggly heated pet bed! Give them a warm place to rest their paws this holiday season.
- Who doesn’t love ugly holiday sweaters?
- Treat your puppy to a new bowl!
- The company Embark makes a dog DNA test if you’ve ever wondered about the origin of your pup.
- Personalized collars, leashes, and harnesses can give your pooch a more personal touch (don’t forget to include your phone number on the collar, just in case!).
- Consider buying a new dog toy for your pup! Your dog can never have enough toys.
